Faculty members and students in the sociology and urban studies departments conduct urban research. Past projects have included research in several New York City neighborhoods, particularly Red Hook, Fort Greene and Bedford Stuyvesant, on topics such as job hunting and hiring practices in low-income neighborhoods, consumer preferences and behavior in Fort Greene, transportation analyses, low-income housing, geographic-information-systems projects and research on the sources of racial, ethnic and income diversity. Some of this research has been published or described in the City Journal, The Wall Street Journal, and The Journal of Social Problems. Additionally, students have provided research and technical assistance for the Regional Planning Association, the Myrtle Avenue Redevelopment Program, the Brooklyn Borough President and New York City Community Planning Board 2.
