The Student Mentor Program is a peer counseling/advice service on campus that caters mainly to the incoming student population. Mentors meet and work with the student population in a variety of ways: sitting in on Orientation Seminar classes, hosting Info Tables, planning and leading Mentor events, and providing support to various Academic and Instructional Resources initiatives.
By becoming a Student Mentor you will receive special training in listening, counseling, public speaking and interpersonal skills. In addition to these skills, workshops are offered each semester that aim to fulfill our primary goal: to be of significant value to students, to understand our campus' diverse populations, to share resources, and to help promote involvement in University life.
Recruitment for the Student Mentor Program takes place in both the Fall and Spring semesters. Note: All mentors start off as Junior Mentors, and once they’ve acquired enough training and experience are then promoted to Senior Mentors. The application process for the Student Mentor Program includes an application form, a letter outlining your intent to be a mentor, one recommendation from any faculty or administrator on campus, and an interview conducted by the program's coordinator.
Mentor Awards: Junior Mentors must contribute 10 hours per semester and receive a $150.00 book voucher in return. Senior Mentors receive an $800.00 Financial Aid Award and must contribute a total of 28 hours per semester.
