  • MetroTech Health Fair
    Yearly:
    Departments within the School of Health Professions and community minded students participated in the annual MetroTech Health fair which offers free diagnostic and health related information to the community at large.

  • Lobby Day
    The Brooklyn Campus of Long Island University participates in the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities (cIcu) Lobby Day place every year. It is an opportunity for the students of the Brooklyn Campus to meet with their legislative representatives to discuss their concerns regarding Higher Education Financial Aid programs. Each year students from various departments participate including but not limited to: Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP); Social Work; Student Activities and the Student Government Association.

  • Constitution Day
    Constitution Day is a federally mandated program taking place at all institutions of learning.  Each year the Brooklyn campus celebrates by holding a lecture, voting registration drive, a contest and by decorating the campus out in red, white and blue, attracting over well over 100 students at the event.

  • A Women’s Career Forum: Success Is Within Your Reach
    Senator Velmanette Montgomery and Provost Gale Stevens Haynes joined forces to address the workforce issues of women today. The Forum attracted over 250 women to LIU to address pressing workforce needs.     The Career Forum included a panel discussion with five esteemed panelists, three breakout sessions, and a wrap up. The panel discussions addressed topics such as “Networking For Success, Career Opportunities, Creative Financing For Businesses” and more. During the three breakout sessions panelists interacted with the attendees on a more personal level. This allowed the women to share experiences, ask questions, exchange ideas and benefit from the experience of leaders in their field or specialty.

  • Silence the Violence Conference
    The Brooklyn Campus in collaboration with the Brooklyn Borough president co-sponsored a youth Anti-Violence Conference entitled “Silence the Violence” which attracted over 700 youth from the metropolitan area.

  • Andrew Young Visit to Brooklyn Campus
    Facilitated and coordinated community forum on International relations and Civil Rights with guest speaker former Ambassador and Mayor of Atlanta, Andrew Young. Other departments involved included, sociology and public relations.
