Internal
- Legislative Committee For Student Services
The Legislative Committee for Student Services was formulated
to address the pressing governmental issues that affect students
of the Brooklyn campus. By hosting voting forums and encouraging
interaction with elected officials, students learn about
the importance of voting and become aware of the issues affecting
university spending, student assistance, and the greater
New
York community. A series of training workshops are held, “teaching
students how to effectively interface with elected officials.” These
workshops often feature presentations by local elected officials,
the Council on Independent Colleges and Universities, government
relations officials and university administration.
The goal is to educate students about the legislative process
and to encourage communication with the public servants of
their respective voting districts. Each year the university
hosts an Albany trip. Thus, enabling students to visit the
capitol, meet with elected officials, and interact with students
from various institutions of higher learning. The committee
is comprised of representatives from the student body and university
administrators from various departments. Anyone interested
in joining this committee should contact the Office of Institutional
Advancement at (718) 780-1514
