Communication Skills Improvement (ESL

This exciting course is designed especially for students seeking an
intense English course with strong emphasis on conversation and practice
in day to day speaking skills. Classes will utilize role-playing techniques
that apply directly to both individual and group communication problems.
Some classes will be videotaped so students can view their own growth
through the course. Basic grammar and oral presentation will be incorporated
into each class. (24 hours)

English Writing Skills Improvement (ESL
30)
This course is designed to provide students a unique opportunity
to improve their writing skills in preparation for college or the
job market. You will focus on the techniques of proofreading and
self-editing as well as a comprehensive review of English grammar
and the basics. Practical application of these techniques in composing
letters, business-related communications and essays will be covered.

Foreign Accent Correction (ESL
35)
For advanced students and those already fluent in English who wish
to improve their pronunciation, intonation and general intelligibility.
You will focus on exercises with the English sound system, rhythm,
tone and inflection. The language lab will be available to students
enrolled in this course. (24 hours)

Vocabulary Expansion (ESL 40)
For students with advanced fluency in English who wish to increase
and improve their vocabulary for test-taking purposes. Using reading
materials as well as practice tapes and exams, you will focus on
building up familiarity with the kinds of words most often found
on vocabulary tests for civil service, high school equivalency (GED)
and college placement exams. (24 hours)

TOEFL Preparation (ESL
50)
You will participate in a combination of classroom and laboratory
work, home assignments and listening comprehension exercises. High-intermediate
and advanced students learn strategies suitable for the Test of
English as a Foreign Language, as well as for other objective tests
of English, including ECFMG. Each class involves study and practice
to prepare especially for the structure and written expression components
of the TOEFL, as well as practice listening comprehension examinations.

Word Processing for ESL Students (ESL

This course introduces basic vocabulary and techniques for using
the popular computer program, Microsoft Word. Students receive "hands-on"
experience at the computer keyboard, learning valuable word processing
skills while developing in English. (24 hours)
