The Corporate Education & Training Center designs programs to meet the training and productivity needs of its clients at very competitive rates. Custom-developed contract programs that have been offered include those involving communication skills, conflict resolution in the workplace, managed care, use of the Internet in health care settings, business writing and presentation skills. Programs can be offered on-site at your facility, on-campus, or on-line via the Web.

Leadership Development Academy
The Corporate Education & Training Center’s Leadership Development Academy serves to develop leadership qualities and skills for employees in managerial positions as well as those aspiring to advance to this level of responsibility. The Academy offers two tracks of training or can customize a leadership program that meets your needs.
Track 1- Fundamentals of Leadership
Fundamentals of Leadership is a one-year program consisting of monthly, four-hour training modules that include:

Security and Safety Training
Protecting your Facility

The Modern Language Center
As business becomes more globalized and the workforce becomes more diverse, employers may run up against communications challenges among their employees.
The Modern Language Center at the Brooklyn Campus offers a comprehensive English as a Second Language (ESL) program, to help those who do not speak English fluently to better communicate in the work place. Customized to meet your needs at your location or on our campus.
The Center offers:

• Courses in Foreign Accent Correction and TOEFL Preparation
• Multimedia Language Laboratory
In addition, the Center offers courses in Spanish for those companies interested in having their employees learn the language to better service the growing Spanish consumer base and population.
Custom-Tailored Programs
Writing Throughout Your Career
No matter what their career path, your employees’ work will inevitably involve some level of writing and communication on a day-to-day basis.
Perhaps they are writing for a business or non-profit organization. Maybe their job calls for writing skills necessary to communicate on health, legal, educational, technological or scientific issues. Perhaps they need to shift their writing style from traditional to new media. Whatever writing skills their job requires, we can help to ensure that their communications hit the mark.
This course draws on rhetorical perspectives, notably those inspired by genre scholarship and professional writing practices, to provide your employees with a core of common principles to analyze and to develop their professional writing skills. As part of their course work, they will analyze professional writing samples and writing practices in their field and will apply what they learn to better communicate in the professional environment.
Your employees will develop a portfolio of their writing and will receive individual guidance and feedback in consultation with their professor who will assess their professional writing needs and work to ensure that their goals and objectives are met.

The School of Continuing Studies at Long Island University's Brooklyn Campus provides learning opportunities to complement the academic degree. Graduate Business Certificate Program
A special continuing eduation program for those with bachelor's degrees in non-business disciplines....
Men and women who lack degrees in business are often at a competitive disadvantage in the corporate world. Success in business today requires the highly specialized skills that are taught in undergraduate and graduate business degree programs.
Long Island University's Graduate Business Certificate Program is specially designed for those who need business and management skills but have undergraduate degrees in the liberal arts, education, engineering or other disciplines. You will enroll in introductory graduate level courses in computing, accounting, finance, management and marketing.
Register for any four of the six courses listed below on a non-credit basis, according to your professional needs and goals.
Advantages:
1. Enroll in graduate level courses at a substantially reduced non-credit tuition;
2. Study with Long Island University's outstanding Graduate Faculty of Business, Public Administration, and Information Sciences;
3. Gain the skills you need now and pursue an MBA later.
If you later choose to apply to Long Island University's Master of Business Administration Program, you may petition to have any of the courses in which you received a grade of B or higher waived from your degree requirements. This feature allows prospective MBA candidates to experience graduate level business study before seeking admission to graduate school or making the time and financial commitment to a master's degree program.
Admission Requirement:
You must have completed a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. A copy of your diploma your transcript must be included with your registration.
Certificate Requirements:
1. Register for four of the six courses listed below on a non-credit basis through the School of Continuing Studies.
2. Receive a letter grade (no Incompletes) for each course.
3. Maintain an overall grade average of at least a B (3.0).
Please note: You may not change your course registration from non-credit to credit once a course has begun. Those who wish to pursue the MBA degree must submit formal application materials and meet all entry criteria.

A study of basic accounting concepts and methods and their signifcance to management and to the financial analyst. This course does not require previous training in accounting. (30 hours)

Corporate Financial Management (GBCS 511)
A study of the methods by which firms and individuals in a risky global environment evaluate stocks, bonds and investment projects, combine those elements in optimal portfolios, and determine the best level of debt versus equity. The basic tools are risk versus return and the evaluation of future cash flows. (30 hours)

A survey analysis of the operations of marketing systems. The course emphasizes strategic planning, coordination and adaptation of marketing operations to opportunities in profit and nonprofit organizations. Money, Banking and Capital Markets (GBCS 514)
An effort to analyze and understand the principal forces that are shaping U.S. world money and capital markets. Money creation, the demand for money, and the relation of money to inflation and financial flows are each examined. Interest rates are analyzed in the context of portfolio choice, and their behavior is carefully examined. (30 hours)

Advanced Certificate in Management
A new program for MBA holders......
Success in the business world means keeping current with new theories and approaches to management. With today's knowledge explosion, professionals --- even those who have completed MBA degress recently --- need to constantly renew their repertoire of skills.
The Advanced Certificate in Management allows you to tailor a program of study to meet your professional interests and goals. You may select courses that will provide in-depth expertise in one area or broaden your skills by pursuing topics that were not included in your graduate studies.
This program is designed to equip you with the advanced skills necessary to successfully assume leadership roles in the 21st century. It will also demonstrate to employers your commitment to keep learning and improving your professional skills.
Admission Requirement:
You must have completed an MBA program to be eligible to pusue this advanced certificate. A copy of your diploma or transcipt must accompany your registration form.
Certificate Requirements:
You must complete any four 700 level graduate business courses (or 600 level computer science courses). Choose courses according to your professional interests and needs. You may enroll in one course at a time or complete all four in a single semester --- the choice is yours!
An overall average of B (3.0) must be maintained in order to be awarded an advanced certificate.
When you complete the program, you will be awarded a certificate jointly by Long Island University's School of Business, Public Administration and Information Sciences and the School of Continuing Studies.
