Cooperative Education Program
This program assists students in preparing for and securing major/career-related internship positions that complement academic studies. Such positions will help students build their skills, experience and self-confidence, as well as their resumes. Employers are 60% more likely to hire students with internship experience and many employers go on to hire students who have interned with them upon graduation. Students are encouraged to plan to have several internships through their college career – and to work with our office to help them through this process. See your Career Counselor today for more information! The following classes may be taken to fulfill ‘credit’ requirements for an internship. See your Career Counselor today for more information.
Coop 1 (Career Readiness) is a one-credit course offered to students in all majors to prepare them for internship experiences, job search and the world of work. Participants develop their own portfolio of job search-related tools, including a resume and cover letter; practice interviewing and receive feedback; and learn about different industries and occupations that fit their interests. Students who are enrolled for 15 credits and are in good academic standing are eligible for a grant to cover the cost of tuition for Coop 1. For more information, students should contact their academic advisor.
Coop 2: This seminar introduces students in an internship to workplace dynamics, professional etiquette and navigating the professional world.

- LIU-Brooklyn Campus Cooperative Education Program
Cooperative Education integrates academic study with career-related professional work experience. The program enables undergraduate students to work in a field related to their career interests, while in school. Cooperative Education students learn about the world of work and workplace etiquette by taking our Coop 1: Career Readiness course. All students also work one-on-one with a Career Counselor through their Coop experience-and their academic career at LIU-Brooklyn Campus. Our program is ongoing, so students may begin their work placement anytime during the year, depending on employers’ needs. Students may continue their work beyond the initial assignment, if requested by the employer. If the student is not available, we will find another candidate for you. The program provides employers with an excellent source of motivated, pre-trained, and focused employees to assist you on a short- or long-term basis or with special projects.
- On-Campus Recruiting/Resume Drops
Let us help you meet your hiring needs by arranging for you to interview our students on-campus. Or, we can collect and screen resumes and candidates for your targeted openings. Contact: Stephanie Steinberg, Director, Office of Career Services, stephanie.steinberg@liu.edu; 718.488.3311
