Career Services

  • One-on-one appointments with a counselor throughout a student’s college career

  • Skills/Interests Assessments to help students discover career options that fit their personalities, interests and skills.

  • Career and industry research to uncover a variety of career options and industries. Students may read career-related books while relaxing in our library and conduct their own research at the computer kiosks in our Lounge in Pratt 510.

  • Career-related workshops on a variety of topics such as interviewing skills, how to network, etc., often targeting specific majors.

  • Resume and job search letter development to target/explore/follow-up on specific opportunities.

  • Interview preparation enables students to experience the interview-process first-hand through mock interviews. Students receive feedback and gain confidence.

  • Career Readiness class (COOP 1):  This one-credit class prepares students for coop placements and internships and is free for students in good standing who take at least 15 credits during that semester.

  • Coop/Internship referral assistance: Students learn about work opportunities that strengthen skills, and allow students to explore different careers, network with professionals and build their resumes.  Many coop/internship opportunities are paid.

  • Networking with professionals: Seasoned professionals in a variety of fields and industries share their experiences and valuable career/industry information through special events such as panels, networking parties, etc.

  • Mentoring program:  Students are connected with LIU Alums who are established professionals in their chosen field of interest.

  • On-campus Recruiting Events: Students have opportunities to meet employers and learn about opportunities at events such as Career Fairs and in some cases, interview for positions.

  • Job referral assistance:  Counselors help students conduct a job search, identify opportunities of interest and prepare to apply and interview for targeted opportunities.

  • On-the-Job coaching:  Once students obtain an internship or job, counselors are available to assist them as they adjust to the work world.

  • Alumni counseling:  Students receive continued career counseling assistance upon graduation from LIU – Brooklyn Campus
