Final Week
In the final week of the regular season, winless D-Block was looking
to upset the (1-3) Blazers forthe final spot in the playoffs. This
was the lowest scoring game in the Nothing But Net Basketball League
this season. At halftime the score was 8 -5 and it did not pick
up in the second half. This game was very sloppy; there were more
turnovers than field goals. The Blazers gave John Gill the ball
and moved out of his way, scoring 12 of the 14 points. The Blazers
defeated D-Block 14-12; with this win the Blazers advance to the
playoffs and will play GB Inc in the first round.
The second game of the night was the showdown between the X-Birds
and GB Inc. GB Inc. was looking to even the season series at one
apiece while the X-Birds were trying to enter the playoffs undefeated.
GB Inc. got off to an 11-4 start led by Gawaine Gordon. The experienced
X-Birds settled down, and made their run led by captain Scott Gomez.
GB Inc. was able to weather the
X-Birds storm going into halftime with a five point lead. The game
was close throughout the second half; both teams made their runs
while the other was able to maintain their composure. With less
than a minute to play Gawaine Gordon hit one of two free throws
to give GB Inc. a two point lead. X-Birds point guard Tory Federicks
made a crucial turnover giving the ball back to GB Inc. The X-Birds
had their chances when Scott Gomez stole the ball from Gawaine Gordon
but Gomez was unable to convert. The X-Birds were forced to foul
sending Kevin Julien to the line for an one and one. Kevin iced
the victory by nailing both free throws with
four seconds remaining. GB Inc. went on to win by a score of 24-20.
The last game featured the Streetballaz (2-2) and the Untouchables
(2-2). Both teams were fightingfor their playoff lives. The Streetballaz
were confident going into the game and it showed. They jumped out
to an early lead and never looked back. The Streetballaz marched
passed the Untouchables 33-18 and will advance to play the X-Birds
in the first round. Without Greg Perkins the Untouchables did not
have an inside presence and the Streetballaz took advantage of it.
Rudolph Durand (15 points) got his team going and Courntey Morrison
(13 points) quickly followed.
