Week 1
L.I.U.'s Evening Intramurals Nothing But Net Basketball League
(NBNL) is back for its third season. This semester the league stayed
with the same amount of teams from last year. There were a lot of
players changing teams with two of the eight teams new to the league,
including a woman's team. Each team would play a total of seven
regular season games round robin style, there are two divisions,
Dekalb and Flatbush, the top two teams from each division will participate
in the Nothing But Net playoffs which is single elimination. Each
team receives two time-outs per half, besides that the action never
stops. This is the first time a woman's team is participating in
the league. The team consists of head coach, coaching staff, an
ex-LIU ladybird's players. In its third season, NBNL is getting
popularity and recognization not only among students but also staff
and faculty are coming forward to participate. The attendance has
vastly increased from the previous year. DJs and free giveaways
made this league more colorful to everyone.
Ball
Till Ya Fall 38 vs. Lights Out 34
The first game of the season consisted of the Ball Till Ya Fall
and Lights Out. The game was evenly contested with a few lead changes.
Both teams traded baskets and hit some big shots. At the half, Ball
Till Ya Fall was leading by two points. During the second half,
Lights Out tried to take the lead a couple of times but only manage
to come within 3 points or tie, Ball Till Ya Fall emerged as the
crowd's favorite, player/coach Stephanie Gaittey used the timeouts
at the right time in keeping the team together and maintaining the
lead. The winners were lead by Tamika with 10 points and Robyne
added 8 points.
Get
Busy 31 vs. Big Twelve 16
Get Busy and Big Twelve played the second game of the night. Get
Busy took an early lead in the game and extended it until the end
of the game. Dawan scored game-high 15 points, while gave his team
to a record of 1-0.
Untitle
32 vs. Hornets 27
The game between Untitle and Hornets was quiet competitive. Both
teams gave their all out effort to stay in the game. During the
second half, Hornets took lead at one point but couldn't hold on
to it for long. Untitle came out strong and regained the lead. Crowd
really enjoyed this game. Floyd scored 14 points while Courtney
added 11.
Do
Da Damn Thing 44 vs. Good To Go 26
One of the top teams from last semester, Do Da Damn Thing (DDDT)
met Good To Go at the last game of the night. Both teams traded
baskets and DDDT managed to take the early lead. During the second
half, Good To Go lost the momentum of the game which involved a
scoreboard mishap but lost the game in huge margin. Brad played
superb and led all scorers with 15 points which consisted of four
consecutive three pointers. Kevin and Peterson contributed 10 and
11 points respectively in a losing effort.
