Week 3
X-Birds
49 vs. TrendSetters 26
Throughout the first half the TrendSetters (0-3) were able to
stay in arms length of the X-Birds (2-1) until Tory Federicks
caught fire. Federicks hit two three pointers to end the half
giving the X-Birds a 20-13 halftime lead. In the second half,
the story was pretty much the same, Tory controlled the X-Birds
offense. When Tory was not hitting threes he was setting up his
teammates. Tory finished with a game-high 20 points, Most Valuable
Player Scott Gomez ended the game with 14 and Dave Recinos added
9. The X-Birds bounced back from their lost last week blowing
the TrendSetters out 49-26. Rumor has the X-Birds released former
L.I.U. player Ray Riveria from the team.
75
Gran 27 vs. Hiceberg Thugs 16
75 Gran (3-0) won their first two games due to hard work and
good defense. Their philosophy did not change this week against
the Hiceberg Thugs allowing only 6 points in the second half.
Coming into tonight's contest the Hiceberg Thugs were very confident
after their win last week versus Most Wanted. 75 Gran forced the
Hicebergs Thugs to play their style of game leading to a 27-16
victory. 75 Gran has no particular go-to player but they have
good balance. Yatti Grant led all scorers with 10 points, Sheridon
Singh added 6, two players scored 5 apiece. This win puts 75 Gran
on top of the Flatbush Conference; with this lost the Hiceberg
Thugs fall to a record of (1-2).
Do
Da Damn Thing 42 vs. Ballers 25
Do Da Damn Thing (3-0) got rid of the Ballers (1-2) early by
setting up their full court pressure defense. They pressed and
trapped like the University of Kentucky when Rick Pitino coached.
The rotation on their press was near perfect forcing many turnovers,
steals leading to easy lay-ups, and forcing the Ballers into taking
bad shots. Since the season started, Do Da Damn Thing's defense
has created their offense. The team is run by point guard Joe
Williams, who settles them down while dropping dimes. He is a
good fit for this team because he does not look to score but gets
his main scorers the ball. Shamark Limehouse has benefited the
most from the team's pressing style of play. Last night Limehouse
led all scorers with 18 points including several acrobatic dunks.
Daniele Phillips added 13 points. Do Da Damn Thing remains unbeaten
and in first place in the Dekalb Conference. Rumor has Ballers'
captain Dexter Oliver dropped last week's Dekalb Conference player
of the week Loukman "Beans" Kinushi.
Untitle
33 vs. Most Wanted 22
The last game of the night featured Untitle (2-1) and Most Wanted
(0-3). This was an important game for both teams after losing
last week. Untitle was able to hold off Most Wanted 33-22. Untitle
was led by their 1-2 punch Floyd Potts (14 points) and Eugene
Robinson (12 points). Mike McPhee had a team high 8 points.
