The Office of Student Activities
in cooperation with the Student Government Association sponsors
Evening Recreation/Intramurals. Intramurals is designed to help
meet the extracurricular needs of the students and the Brooklyn
Campus community. There is no fee involved. Many of our students
come to our campus with previous athletic experiences, either
as participants in high school athletics or as individuals with
deep interest in personal fitness. Successful transition into
college for many students will hinge on how successfully they
transfer their athletic experiences into everyday campus life.
WHY GET INVOLVED?
Outside of structured programs, recreation may be the single
common bond among students. We try to service student needs, provide
outlets for physical and emotional stress, and develop students'
skills.
WHAT ACTIVITIES ARE PROVIDED?
Aerobic, African/Caribbean Dance, Modern Hip Hop Dance, Basketball,
Billiards, Board Games, Cup Stacking, Flag Football, Karate, Table
Tennis, Soccer, Volleyball, Tennis, and Weight Lifting.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Any student with a valid Long Island University ID can
participate in intramurals by coming to the gym and signing the
attendance log book. Long Island University students are allowed ONE guest
per evening.
ARE THERE TOURNAMENTS?
In fall 2002, we started a very competitive basketball night
league called "Nothing But Net" open only to students,
alumni, staff, and two guests (non-LIU) . There are a limited number
of teams, lots of fun with DJ music and free giveaways. At the end
of each semester tournaments are also held for each activity. Prizes
and gifts are awarded.
