Indoor Soccer

May 6th 2003

For the second straight tournament Baseline came in as the NO. 1 seed and once again they were ousted in the first game. Baseline (0), Blackbirds (1) the first game of the night did set the tone, it was very competitive, great soccer with both teams passing well, they went into the half (0-0). The second half was even more competitive and the Blackbirds' Norman Lasquez capitalized on the only mistake made by Baseline's defense for his second goal of the tournament and the game winner.

The second game NO.2 seed Vasco (1) defeated Plaza Boys (0) like game one this contest was very competitive with great soccer with both teams attacking and defending but Vasco had Kenny "Controller" Second on their side. The score was tied (0-0) at the half but that would change 5 minutes into the second half when Anders Khan would net his second of the tournament from an assist by Anthony Joseph. Controller then secured the victory and a spot in the finals by not letting any ball or player pass him.

The final game of the tournament featured two teams that had played each other in the round robin style round with Vasco edging out Blackbirds (1-0). The only difference this time was more goals were scored, Vasco (5), Blackbirds (2). Blackbirds came out in full attack mode with all four players moving forward in an attempt to get past Controller, this left them vulnerable and Anthony Joseph made them pay on a fast break. Blackbirds kept the same strategy and once again the same result this time Shawn Castle on a counterattack. They finally pulled one backjust before the half via Fedir Ilnitskyy (2-1). The Blackbirds started the second half looking for the equalizer and again found themselvesdown by two when Anthony Joseph netted his second. Midway in the half Fedir got his second of the game to make the score (3-2), but that is as close as they would get, Vasco produced successful counterattacks and on one of them Shawn got his second of the game (4-2) and just before the final whistle Anthony scored again giving him his third for the game (5-2).
