 On
Wednesday, October 16, Evening Intramurals hosted its 1st Annual
"Nothing But Net" Basketball League. There are
six teams that make up this league, which consists of current L.I.U.
students, staff and alumni. The games are held every Wednesday
from 8:30- 10:30PM, and the music is played by WLIU.
We encourage you to come and support the league.
The first game of the league featured GB Inc.(0-1) vs. the X-Birds
(1-0). The game started off
slow but picked up towards the end of the first half. The X-Birds
hustle and balance attack proved to be too much for GB Inc.
Former L.I.U. stand-out John Frank poured in a team high
14 points and captain Scott Gomez added 11 points.
The X-Birds got good point guard play from Tory Fredericks
and a strong effort from Dave Recinos; both players
scored 8 points. Kevin Julien scored 22 points while
owning the boards and G. Gordon chipped in 15 points in a
losing effort.
 In
the second game of the night the Street Ballaz (1-0) defeated
D-Block (0-1) in a thriller. It game down to one shot to send
the game into overtime. D-Block got a good look at the basket
but was unable to send the game into overtime. Streetballaz
escaped with a 25-22 victory over D-Block, Cortney Morrison &
Angel Ortiz scored 8 points apiece, while Rahim scored a
game high 10 points.
