Week Five: Nov. 13
This week in the Nothing But Net League, there was some intense
basketball being played. The firstgame was between Street Ballaz
and Blazers, both teams are fighting to make the playoffs. Street
Ballaz kept their playoff chances alive by knocking off the Blazers
by a score of 33 -28. The game was close throughout, but immediately
changed when Blazers' Shamark Limehouse left the game with a broken
finger, early in the second half. Streetballaz took advantage of
Limehouse's injury and improved their record to 2-2. Cortney Morrison
had a team high 14 points and Rudolph Durand added 9 points. The
Blazers were led by John Gill's 16 points but drop to a record of
1-3. This win puts the Street Ballaz in a tie with the Untouchables
for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. These teams
will play each other the in final week of the regular season and
the winner advances to the playoffs.
The
second game featured GB Inc against the Untouchables. GB Inc has
been playing well since the their opening lost to the X-Birds. They
continued their good play by blowing out the Untouchables by a score
of 34-19. GB Inc (3-1) has been playing unselfish basketball and
it showed in the box scores. G. Gordon lead the way with 11 points,
Kevin Julien and Everett added 9 points apiece. GB Inc also got
great post play from Floyd Potts, who is becoming a presence down
low. GB Inc (3-1) will try to avenge their early lost against the
X-Birds in the final week of the season. The Untouchables (2-2)
will face Street Ballaz for the final spot in the playoffs.
The final game of the evening was the X-Birds vs. D-Block. The X-Birds
cruised to a 32-20 over
D-Block; the X-Birds remain unbeaten with a record of 4-0 and D-Block
remains winless (0-4). Ray Riveria had all of the X-Birds points
in the first half, he finished the game with 16 points. D-Block
played the X-Birds well, trailing by one at the half. In the second
half, the X-Birds started to pull away but D-Block made a run to
cut the lead to six. Tory Federicks (7 points) hit a three from
downtown to seal the victory for the X-Birds. Despite, D-Block's
poor record they will have a chance to make the playoffs if they
beat the Blazers in the final game of the season.
