The Long Island University baseball team dropped to 0-3 on the young season after being shutout, 10-0 by Oakland (Ill.) in Richmond, Ky. The Blackbirds mustered just one hit, a double by freshman Chris Kievit (Wayne, N.J.) with one out in the ninth.

Oakland starter Brad Noel did not allow a hit over seven innings, striking out three and walking six in the process. Sophomore Kenny Cedel (Staten Island, N.Y.) was tagged for five runs (two earned) in five innings of work. He gave up five hits while striking out six.

The Golden Grizzlies took a 1-0 lead against the Blackbirds in the bottom of the second with an RBI single through the left side by Drew Jenison. Kevin Carkeek extended the Oakland advantage to 2-0 with a sacrifice fly in the fourth.

The Golden Grizzlies scored three additional runs in the fifth inning to go up 5-0 and a five-run eighth inning sealed the win for Oakland.

Long Island will wrap up its three-day stint in the Bluegrass State with a game against Eastern Kentucky on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 10:00 a.m.
