coach Don Maines released the 2007 schedule today. The Blackbirds
are slated to play
59 games this season, with 22 home contests on the docket.
To open the season, Long Island
will travel to Eastern Kentucky, where the Blackbirds will
take on Oakland (Ill.) and the
host Colonels from Feb. 23-25. Long Island will return
to Brooklyn for its first home game on Feb. 28 when Saint Peter’s
visits. The Blackbirds will welcome non-conference
foes Manhattan, Hofstra, St. John’s, Rider and Maryland-Eastern
Shore to LIU Field this season. Long Island will travel to
Florida for spring break,
taking on St. Bonaventure, Northern Illinois, New Jersey Institute
of Technology, Fordham and Maine at the Palm Beach Challenge,
which begins on March 10.
The Blackbirds take part in the
Villanova Spring Bash in Philadelphia from March 16-18, where
they will take
on Saint Joseph’s,
Temple and the host Wildcats. Long Island will begin Northeast
Conference play when Wagner visits for a four-game series on
April 5.
The Blackbirds return 17 letterwinners from last season and
welcome a talented crop of nine newcomers. Long Island finished
13-33-1 last season, including a 10-13 mark in NEC play.
