Wabick Signs With Astros

Long Island University baseball recruit Brian Wabick (Palos Park,
Ill.) was selected by the Houston Astros on the second day of the
Major League Baseball first-year player draft on June 8. Wabick,
a right-handed pitcher, was taken in the 34th round with the 1,038th
pick. He signed with the Astros on June 12.
Wabick signed a National Letter-of-Intent
in November to play for the Blackbirds beginning with the 2008
season. The hard-throwing righty pitched for Oakton (Ill.)
Community College during 2007, appearing in 13 games. In 72
innings, he struck out 78 batters while compiling a 7-5 record
and a 2.25 ERA. (more)
