Men's Golf Finishes in Second Place at Army Mulekicker Classic; Wilson Closes Fourth Individually

 

10/8/06 -- The Long Island University men's golf team finished with a two-day total of 603 to finish in second place at the Army Mulekicker Classic at West Point Golf Course in West Point, N.Y. on Sunday afternoon.

Senior Matt Wilson ended with a solo fourth place finish at 146. Fellow classmate Patrick Kelly (Brisbane, Australia) and sophomore Rob Gallagher (Morganton, N.C.) closed in a tie for 13th place at 151.

The Blackbirds improved on their first-round total of 303 by three strokes, but could not withstand a phenomenal round by Rutgers on the final day. The Scarlet Knights shot a 288 en route to an 11-stroke victory.

Charles Waddell of Bucknell defeated Seth Hirschhorn of Rutgers in a three-hole playoff to take home individual medalist honors at one-over-par 141.

Long Island will continue its fall schedule on Oct. 13-15 at the NBT Bank Classic, hosted by Binghamton University.
