Patrick Kelly (Brisbane, Australia) fired a steady round of
73
to close one shot back of the lead after the first round of the
Third
Annual Lonnie Barton Invitational in Bluffton, S.C. on Monday
afternoon.
Kelly had 16 pars in a round
that saw him birdie the third hole and
suffer the only blemish of his round, a double-bogey, on the
par-three
13th. The Australia native needed just 28 putts to complete his
round.
Sophomore Rob Gallagher (Morganton,
N.C.) also put together a strong
opening day, tying for fifth place at three-over-par 75. As a
team,
the Blackbirds stand in third place with Missouri Southern at
312, four
strokes back of Ohio Valley and 14 strokes behind leader University
of
Indiana-Pennsylvania.
Long Island will finish play at the Barton Invitational on Tuesday,
March 13.
