LIU Men’s Golfer Matt Wilson Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 1 Second Team

5/24/07 -- Long Island University senior Matt Wilson (Toronto, Ontario) of the men’s golf team was selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 1 Second Team it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday. The district includes Division I schools from all of New England and New York.

Wilson recorded two top-five finishes this year for the Blackbirds and helped the team to a fourth-place finish at the Northeast Conference Championships. He shot 10 rounds that were sub-80, including a low round of 70. Wilson was named the NEC Golfer of the Week on Oct. 11 after finishing fourth at the Army Mulekicker Classic and helping LIU to a second-place standing. He was named to the All-NEC First Team as a junior following his fourth-place finish at the NEC Championships.

In the classroom, Wilson, a philosophy major, was a member of the LIU Honors Program and made the honor roll each semester. He graduated with a 3.90 grade-point-average and was named the LIU Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
