-- Senior Chrissie Carleton (Jackson, N.J.) tallied two goals and four assists but it was not enough as the Long Island University lacrosse team dropped an 11-9 decision to Fairfield University on Thursday afternoon.

Junior Amy Rizzo (Jackson, N.J.) and seniors Jackie McCormick (Liverpool, N.Y.) and Nichole Lopez (Highland Mills, N.Y.) each had two goals for the Blackbirds (0-2).

Down two goals with a little over 10 minutes to play, Lopez and Carleton scored 32 seconds apart to knot the game at 9-9.

Fairfield's Caitlin Keane accepted a Beth Loffredo pass and scored the game-winning goal for the Stags with 6:18 to play. Loffredo added an insurance goal on a free position shot at the 3:28 mark to secure the 11-9 Fairfield win.

LIU started strong, jumping out to a 5-2 advantage at the end of the first half. The Blackbirds scored four unanswered goals to complete the stanza and go into halftime with a three-goal lead.

Ashley Chappell jump-started the Stags as she notched all three of her goals in a 41-second span to start the second half. Following a Rizzo goal, Fairfield would add three more goals to give the team its largest advantage of the game, 8-6.

Freshman Kimberly Campbell (Malvern, Pa.) registered the loss in her first career start in net but tallied 10 saves.
