5/5/06 --
Junior Amy Rizzo (Jackson, N.J.) and senior Nichole Lopez (Highland Mills, N.Y.)
were named to the All-Northeast Conference first team,
as announced on Thursday evening.
For Rizzo, the selection
marks the third consecutive season that she has earned all-league
honors. She was a first-team honoree as a freshman and again
as a sophomore last year.
This season, the
5-0 attacker ranked second in the conference in goals (3.18
gpg) and points (4.47 ppg) and fourth in assists (1.29 apg).
She closed 12th in the nation in goals per outing and 14th
in points. The top scoring threat on the team, Rizzo scored
four or more goals on eight occasions, including a seven-goal
outburst in the season-ending game against Wagner.
Lopez joined the
ranks of two sport all-stars after being named to the all-NEC
soccer team in 2004. The senior midfielder was an all-around threat
this season and ranked near the top of the league in five major
statistical categories. She led the conference in both ground
balls (4.12 gbpg) and draw controls (3.59 dcpg) while ending
fourth and sixth in the nation in those categories, respectively.
The speedster also placed second in turnovers caused (1.88
ctpg), stood sixth in goals (2.59 gpg) and seventh in points
(3.18 ppg).
