Amy Rizzo Earns Northeast Conference Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week

 

 

4/9/07 -- Senior Amy Rizzo (Jackson, N.J.) was named the women’s lacrosse Northeast Conference Player of the Week for the week ending April 8 after leading Long Island University to a pair of conference wins. Rizzo collected her first weekly award this year after leading LIU past Robert Morris, 13-12, and Saint Francis (Pa.), 20-4.

Rizzo led the Blackbirds with 13 points, on 11 goals and two assists last week. She also picked up four ground balls and nine draw controls in a pair of conference contests. In the triple-overtime win against Robert Morris, Rizzo scored a team-high six goals on just eight shots to carry LIU to its first conference win of the year. In Sunday’s win over Saint Francis (Pa.), the senior attacker tallied five goals and an assist to lead LIU to a dominating win. She also added a game-high five draw controls in the victory.

Rizzo currently has a 23-game point-scoring streak and has posted at least five points in three consecutive games. She has also tallied five or more goals on three occasions this year and leads the Blackbirds with 49 points on 37 goals and 12 assists. Rizzo currently ranks second in the NEC in goals per game (3.08) and points per game (4.08). Her totals have her ranked 17th nationally in goals per game and 24th in points per game.

This was the third NEC Player of the Week award for Rizzo after earning it award once during the 2006 season and once during the 2005 season, after being named Rookie of the Week once as a freshman.

The Blackbirds (4-8, 2-3 Northeast Conference) return to action on Friday, April 13, when they host NEC foe Central Connecticut State in a 4:00 p.m. game at LIU Field.
