3/11/05 --
Sophomore Amy Rizzo (Jackson, N.J.) matched two school records with six goals
and eight points for Long Island, which used a huge second-half
outburst
to
rally
for
a 13-9 victory at Canisius in Buffalo, N.Y.
Rizzo scored five goals during a stretch in which the Blackbirds
netted eight straight to open the second half for a 12-7 lead.
Three of her goals in that span were off free-position shots,
the last of which gave LIU (1-1) the lead for good at 8-7
with 19:10 remaining.
Rizzo, a first team All-Northeast
Conference pick last season, equaled the school record for
goals set by
Jackie
McCormick on April 27, 2004 against
Wagner. The eight points matched that from junior Chrissie Carleton
(Jackson, N.J.) four days earlier vs. St. Francis (PA).
Sophomore Kayleigh Graves (Orlando,
Fla.) scored four goals for the second straight game, two of
which came
in the
second-half
stretch. Carleton netted a pair and junior Tina Prickett
(Eldora, N.J.) scored once for LIU, which finished 6-for-6
on free-position shots.
Graves notched a game-high seven
ground balls with junior Nichole Lopez (Highland Mills, N.Y.)
adding six and five draw controls. Senior Patricia
Parker (Long Branch, N.J.) made 12 saves, including eight in
the opening half.
LIU remains in Buffalo to face
Niagara on Saturday at 1:00 pm. |
