3/14/05 --
Sophomore Amy Rizzo (Jackson, N.J.), who last week tied
a pair of school records for Long Island, today was named Northeast
Conference Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week.
Rizzo earned the award after recording six goals
and eight assists Friday in LIU’s 13-9 victory at Canisius.
The standout attack scored five goals during a stretch in which
the Blackbirds
(1-1) netted eight straight to open the second half for a 12-7
lead. Three of her goals in that span were off free-position
shots, the last of which gave LIU the lead for good at 8-7 with
19:10 remaining.
A first team All-NEC pick last season, Rizzo equaled the school
record for goals set by Jackie McCormick on April 27, 2004 against
Wagner. The eight points matched that from junior Chrissie Carleton
(Jackson, N.J.) four days earlier vs. St. Francis (PA).
Rizzo is second on the squad this season with seven goals. Last
year, she closed second in the conference with 2.50 goals per
game (35 total) and fifth with 3.14 points per contest (44 total).
LIU returns to action Tuesday to battle the University of California
in Berkeley, beginning at 6:30 pm Eastern Time. |
