Lacrosse Drops 13-7 Decision at Quinnipiac

4/5/05 -- Sophomore Amy Rizzo (Jackson, N.J.) scored three goals and juniors Chrissie Carleton (Jackson, N.J.) and Nichole Lopez (Highland Mills, N.Y.) notched two apiece, but it was not enough as Long Island University dropped a 13-7 decision to Quinnipiac in a Northeast Conference college women’s lacrosse game on Tuesday afternoon in Hamden, Conn.

The Blackbirds (2-6, 1-2 NEC) got on the board quickly, netting the first score 3:17 into the game. Lopez tallied the first of her two scores off a feed from Carleton. The Bobcats (4-5, 3-0 NEC) scored the next two goals before LIU answered with a pair of scores to take its first lead.

Rizzo tied the score at 2-2 on a free position goal at the 18:55 mark and Carleton put LIU ahead three minutes later. QU rattled off the next four goals over an eight-minute span to lead 6-3 with 4:19 remaining in the first half. Rizzo pulled the Blackbirds to 6-4, scoring her second goal of the contest with 1:31 to play before the half.

Quinnipiac put the game out of reach early in the second, scoring four consecutive goals in the first 13 minutes of play. The last tally, a goal from Amy Willis at the 16:21 mark- her third of the game- gave QU a 10-4 advantage.

LIU goalkeeper Patricia Parker registered 21 saves in the loss.

The Blackbirds host Robert Morris on Friday, April 8 at 1:00 p.m. at the Parade Ground at Prospect Park.
