4/5/05 -- Sophomore
Amy Rizzo (Jackson, N.J.) scored three goals and juniors Chrissie
Carleton (Jackson, N.J.) and
Nichole Lopez
(Highland Mills, N.Y.) notched two apiece, but it was not enough
as Long Island University dropped a 13-7 decision to Quinnipiac
in a Northeast Conference college women’s lacrosse game
on Tuesday afternoon in Hamden, Conn.
The Blackbirds (2-6, 1-2 NEC) got on the board quickly, netting
the first score 3:17 into the game. Lopez tallied the first of
her two scores off a feed from Carleton. The Bobcats (4-5, 3-0
NEC) scored the next two goals before LIU answered with a pair
of scores to take its first lead.
Rizzo tied the score at 2-2 on a free position goal at the 18:55
mark and Carleton put LIU ahead three minutes later. QU rattled
off the next four goals over an eight-minute span to lead 6-3
with 4:19 remaining in the first half. Rizzo pulled the Blackbirds
to 6-4, scoring her second goal of the contest with 1:31 to play
before the half. Quinnipiac put the game out of reach early in the second, scoring
four consecutive goals in the first 13 minutes of play. The last
tally, a goal from Amy Willis at the 16:21 mark- her third of
the game- gave QU a 10-4 advantage.
