four goals but it was not enough as Long Island University
dropped a 7-5 decision to UC Davis on Wednesday in women's
lacrosse action. The Blackbirds fall to 1-3 on the season.
For the Aggies, Katie McMahon
and freshman Kaitlin Moore each scored
twice
as part
of a 5-1 opening run.
Rizzo, the NEC Player of the
Week, scored the first of her four tallys after teammate Kelly
Betancur recovered
a
missed
shot off
the post, halving the margin to one goal (2-1)at the 7:51 mark.
UC Davis then scored the next three goals, getting an unassisted
score by McMahon, a score from Moore and a score from sophomore
midfielder Jen Sanderson.
Armed with a 5-1 lead, the Aggies
failed to score for the remainder of the half. Rizzo and junior
Chrissie Carleton each scored to close
the first half.
Helped by Carleton's steal behind
the UC Davis restraining line, Rizzo completed her hat trick
at the 33:23 mark to cut the lead
to 5-4. However a save by Aggie goalie Kristen Braasch helped
Kaitlin Moore connect with Katie McMahon for a score three minutes
later, pushing the hosts ahead by two..
Blackbirds netminder Patricia
Parker recorded 10 saves in the loss. .Freshman Hilary
Harkins
started the
game in net for UC Davis, allowing three goals with no saves.
Braasch relieved her in the
second half and posted five saves against just two goals against
in eight shots
