University saw its two-game win streak htitleed, falling at
Central Connecticut State on Wednesday night, 81-58 in New
Britain, Conn.
Senior Aubin Scott led the Blackbirds with 11 points. Junior James Williams added
10. Long Island drops to 10-15 overall and 7-9 in the Northeast Conference.
The Blackbirds led 4-0 after two early scores but quickly saw the home team take
advantage of miscues. LIU committed turnovers on four of its first six possessions
and 14 in total in the first half.
After trailing 20-10 at the 6:34 mark of the first period, LIU pulled to seven
points following a 3-pointer by Randy Jones. The Blue Devils had a response,
namely sophomore Tristan Blackwood. The guard accounted for the team's next eight
straight points - of his team-high 21- to push ahead, 28-13 with 4:05 left in
the half. The lead remained 15 (38-23) at intermission.
Early in the second stanza and
trailing by 17, the Blackbirds cut the lead to seven with a
10-0 run. A reverse lay-in from Scott at the 17:35 mark put
LIU within striking distance, 40-33.
The Blue Devils responded, reeling off five straight points for a double digit
lead they would maintain.
The Blackbirds travel to Staten Island on Friday, February 24 for a 7:00 p.m.
televised contest with Wagner.
