Blackbirds Stand Tall Over Giants Basket Marghera

8/28/06 -- Long Island University continued its Italian tour with its second game of the 10-day trip. The Blackbirds registered a 91-58 victory over Giants Basket Marghera.

Sophomore Donovin McLendon (Miami, Fla.) led all scorers with 19 points. Four other Blackbirds added double digit scoring. Senior James Williams (DeSoto, Texas) had 18 and junior Kellen Allen (Mansfield, Texas) had 14 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Aubin Scott (Hempstead, N.Y.) contributed 10 points and a team-high 13 rebounds and classmate Esa Maki-Tulokas (Forssa, Finland) chipped in 10.

The Blackbirds (1-1) jumped out to a 22-9 lead following a steal and subsequent lay-up from Scott at the 2:39 mark of the first quarter. LIU stretched its advantage to 20 (37-17) on a 3-pointer by Williams. They led 40-25 at the break.

The visitors led by double digits the entire second half en route to the 33-point victory.
