Long Island University men’s basketball coach Jim
Ferry has been rewarded with a contract extension, the athletic
department announced on Wednesday.
Ferry orchestrated the Northeast Conference’s biggest
turnaround a season ago leading the Blackbirds to a fourth place
finish and an appearance in the conference tournament semifinals.
Featuring one of the youngest lineups in the nation, the program’s
six-game improvement in league play (4-14 in 2003-04 to 10-8
in 2004-05) was the biggest jump in league action in four years.
The NEC/Jim Phelan Coach of the Year returns the entire starting
lineup and 11 letterwinners in 2005-06. The Blackbirds move into
a new state-of-the-art facility this season adjacent to the downtown
Brooklyn campus, the Athletic, Recreation and Wellness Center.
They open the season on Tuesday, November 22 at 7:00 p.m., hosting
Columbia.
Ferry, a Merrick, N.Y. resident, came to LIU in 2002 after coaching
three seasons at Adelphi, where he complied an 82-11 record. |
