11/22/04 -- Freshman Kellen Allen, a key contributor off the bench for
LIU in its
66-56 season-opening win over Lehigh, on Monday was named the
Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week.
In his first collegiate game, Allen made his presence known
on both ends of the court. The 6-7 forward notched 10 points
on 5-of-10 shooting from the field. He added three rebounds,
two assists, a block and a steal.
On the defensive end, the Mansfield, Texas native drew five
charges in just 21 minutes of action.
Coincidently, the Blackbirds
captured the league’s
first rookie of the week selection last season. Sophomore Esa
Maki-Tulokas
earned that honor.
LIU opens a five-game road trip Wednesday, November 24 against
Columbia, beginning at 7:00 pm.
