Long Island University freshman Randy Jones on Monday was
named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week.
The West Palm Beach, Fla. native, who has assumed the starting
point guard position, averaged 10.5 points, 6.5 assists and 3.0
rebounds in two games last week. Jones scored nine points with
four assists and three rebounds in a loss at Boston College on
Tuesday.
In the Blackbirds NEC opener on Saturday at Wagner, the 5-11
guard notched career marks in points (12) and assists (nine).
In 40 minutes of action, Jones went 4-of-6 from the field, adding
three rebounds and a steal to his line score.
Jones is the team leader in assists (4.3) and steals (1.0) and
is second on the squad in points with nine per game.
LIU (2-2) has captured two of the first three Rookie-of-the-Week
honors. Kellen Allen (Mansfield, Texas) grabbed the prize on
November 22.
The Blackbirds, coming off a
decisive 93-73 victory over the Seahawks, continue their five-game
road swing, traveling
to Albany
on Wednesday, December 8. Tip-off is at 7:00 p.m.
