9/28/05– Two early second-half goals pushed Long Island to a 2-1 victory over Adelphi on Wednesday afternoon in Garden City, N.Y. Senior Mustapha Ayoub (Toronto, Canada) laced a shot just inside the left post in the 52nd minute which proved to be the game-winner.

Freshman Mohammad Mashriqi (Flushing, N.Y.), in only his second collegiate contest, netted his first career goal four minutes into the second half. After collecting the ball near midfield, Machriqi weaved beautifully past the Panthers’ defense to just inside the box before striking from 10 yards out to tie the match at 1-1.

Ayoub hit the game-winner just over two minutes later. Moving to his right, he hit from just outside the 18-yard box.

Adelphi struck first in the game when senior Matt Smith found the back of the net in the 27th minute. The Panthers carried the 1-0 lead into intermission.

Freshman goalkeeper Jeremy Wimer (Shreveport, La.) registered one save en route to his first win of the season.

The Blackbirds owned an 11-9 shot advantage, including a controlling 9-0 difference in the second half.
