Men's Soccer Drops 2-1 Contest at Central Conn. State

10/28/05 - Long Island dropped its third straight decision, falling to Central Connecticut State, 2-1, on Friday. The Blackbirds fall to 4-8-1, 1-4-1 in the Northeast Conference.The Blue Devils improve to 6-4-3 and 3-2-1 in league play

CCSU opened the scoring in the 36th minute on a goal from freshman Yan Klukowkski, his third of the season. Klukowski took a feed from senior Jorden Holder and drilled a shot into the top left corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead.

Long Island's lone scoring opportunity in the first half was stopped by defender David Tyrie, who made a sliding save on shot from freshman Josh Merchant that had gotten past goalkeeper Christopher Rybacki.

The Blackbirds, gained momentum at the start of the second half . Senior Mustapha Ayoub scored the equalizer on a pass from freshman John Crawley in the 59th minute.

Klukowski would score his second goal of the game and break the 1-1 tie on a successful pentitley kick at the 77:12 mark. Junior Alex Harrison broke away from the defense and drew the card on Long Island goalkeeper Alex Fatovic to set-up the pentitley shot.

Central Connecticut ended the game with a 16-15 edge in shots.

Rybacki made six saves for the Blue Devils including two in the final minutes of play, while Fatovic stopped five shots in the loss.

The Blackbirds take on Quinnipiac on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
