Men's Soccer Falls to Host Michigan, 3-1

9/11/05 - Long Island adsfasdfasdfasdf could not hold off host Michigan on Sunday afternoon as the Blackbirds dropped a 3-1 decision in the final game of the Michigan Invitational. Sophomore Ryan Vanderkin and freshman Antti-Pekka Raitisto were named to the all-tournament squad.

The Wolverines scored first, taking a 1-0 lead at intermission. The Blackbirds knotted the contest in the 60th minute when sophomore Szymon Hryszczyk lofted a pass to freshman forward Jukka Lehto. The Finnish product beat UM goalie Peter Dzubay for the game-tying score.

Twelve minutes later, Michigan's Trai Blanks knocked the game-winner in the left near-side of the goal. Blanks added another goal in the 81st minute for the final tally.

Goalkeeper Alex Fatovic registered two saves.

LIU hosts its annual tournament this weekend. The LIU Courtyard by Marriott LaGuardia Soccer Classic kicks off on Friday, September 16. Sacramento State faces Adelphia at 5:00 p.m. and the Blackbirds take on Saint Joseph's at 7:30 p.m.
