Freshman
Kwame Adjeman-Pamboe scored twice to lift St. Francis (Pa)
to a
3-1 victory over Long Island in Northeast Conference men’s
soccer action at LIU Field. The Blackbirds conclude the season
with a 6-9-1, 3-5-1 league mark.
LIU struck first, scoring in the ninth minute of the game. Senior
Mustapha Ayoub (Toronto, Ontario) found midfielder Mohammed Mashriqi
(Flushing, N.Y.) on the right side. The speedy freshman switched
fields and from 10 yards out on the left side, slipped the ball
past Red Flash goalkeeper Bobby Pipech.
SFPA tied the contest 16 minutes later. Arron Clapham served
a corner kick from the left side into the box at the 24:34 mark.
In the ensuing shuffle in front of the net, the ball slipped
over the heads of the LIU defense and freshman goalkeeper Jeremy
Wimer (Shreveport, La.) for the tying score.
The Red Flash pulled ahead for good less than 10 minutes later
on the first of two goals for Adjeman-Pamboe. The freshman notched
his fifth goal of the season when he glided past his defender,
drawing Wimer out of the box. He tapped in the game-winner, sending
it into the far left corner. Jarron Brooks and Donnie Montoya
assisted on the tally.
The Blackbirds had several opportunities in the second half,
holding a controlling 10-5 margin in shots and 5-0 advantage
in corner kicks.
Wimer registered three saves while his counterpart Pipech stopped
seven LIU attempts.
