Former LIU Men's Soccer Stars Continue Professional Careers

4/20/06 -- Former Long Island University men's soccer goalie Eric Masters (Carmel, Ind.) has recently signed with the Long Island Rough Riders of the United Soccer League's (USL) Second Division.

Masters joins another former Blackbird, forward Ricardo Ordain (Brooklyn, N.Y.), on the Rough Riders roster.

Masters logged over 3000 minutes in goal at LIU, registering 145 career saves. He boasted a save percentage of .770 over 37 career contests. His best numbers came in 2001, where he earned 19 starts while recording a career-best goals against average of 1.54.

Following a stint as a graduate assistant for the Blackbirds, Masters moved on to Fordham University where he is currently an assistant coach for the men's soccer team.

David Schofield, a three-year starter at LIU, is also continuing his professional career this season. In his first season for the Philadelphia Kixx of the Major Indoor Soccer League, Schofield has tallied two goals and one assist over 20 contests.

A three-time All-Northeast Conference performer, Schofield enters his third season with the Harrisonburg City Islanders of the United Soccer League this summer. He burst onto the scene in 2004 as a rookie, scoring three goals and five assists. He followed that up with a goal and five more helpers in just 13 games in 2005.

Schofield’s efforts last year were recognized by his peers when he was selected to USL-2 All-League Second Team. He was named to the Team of the Week on May 3 (Week 2), June 7 (Week 7), and July 12 (Week 12).
