The Long Island University men’s
soccer team fell to Robert Morris, 2-1, in blustery conditions
at North Athletic
Complex in Moon Township, Pa. on Friday afternoon.
Sophomore Jukka Lehto (Lahti, Finland) tallied his third
goal of the season for the Blackbirds, who fell to 3-9-1
overall
and 1-3-1 in the Northeast Conference.
The Colonials’ Jacek Przednowek opened the scoring in
the 35th minute. After a Long Island attack was thwarted, Kyle
McIvory found Przednowek for the counter-attack breakway. Przednowek’s
shot slid past Blackbirds goalkeeper Alex Fatovic (Falls Church,
Va.) for the game’s first tally.
In the second half, the Blackbirds came out aggressive, going
against winds gusting up to 25 mph. Sophomore Michael Marten
(Ogden, Ill.) gave the team a spark off the bench and had
a great chance in the 56th minute. The left-footer pivoted
just
outside the box on the right side and used his off-foot for
a shot on goal that was saved by Robert Morris goalkeeper
Matt Felice.
Marten’s determination would pay off minutes later, as
he slid a through ball to Lehto. Lehto’s first shot
deflected off a defender but he redirected the rebound far
post for the
equalizer at the 67:02 mark.
Less than four minutes later, Przednowek would notch the
game-winner as his left-footed effort from just outside the
box jetted
past Fatovic into the upper-left corner of the net. Przednowek
ranks second in the NEC in goals with eight.
The Blackbirds had a few opportunities late, including a
header by Marten that just missed wide right, but could not
break
through.
