9/17/06 -- San Diego State midfielder Kraig Chiles scored a pentitley kick goal in the ninth minute of the first overtime to give the San Diego State men’s soccer team a 2-1 victory over Long Island University (2-6) in the USD/SDSU Soccer Classic at SDSU Sports Deck on Sunday afternoon.

Junior Ryan Vanderkin (Plymouth, Wisc.) tallied the Blackbirds lone goal of the game on a header off a free kick by defender Daniel Barci (Astoria, N.Y.).

After the Aztecs got on the board in the 14th minute of action, Barci sent his free kick into the box eight minutes later. Vanderkin flicked the ball into the back of the net for the equalizer.

After a scoreless second half, San Diego State freshman Steve Beitashour was taken down in the box in overtime by an LIU defender. Chiles then sent a low liner into the right corner of the net for his second pentitley goal of the year and the game-winner.

Junior goalkeeper Jeremy Wimer (Shreveport, La.) stopped seven shots for LIU in the loss. The Blackbirds were outshot 21-5 for the match, including a 16-1 deficit in the second half and overtime.

Long Island sophomore midfielder John Crawley (Glasgow, Scotland) and senior defender Andrew Zarick (Louisville, Ky.) were each named to the all-tournament team. For Zarick, it was his second all-tournament team nod in as many weeks. He was named to the LIU Soccer Classic All-Tournament squad last week.
