--The Long Island University men’s
soccer team announced its 2007 schedule, which features seven
home games, on Monday
afternoon. The slate features three games on the West Coast
and a road tilt with defending Northeast Conference champion
Monmouth.
The Blackbirds, who finished last year with a 4-11-2 record,
open up with games against Cal-State Fullerton and UC Irvine
in the UC Irvine Tournament in Irvine, Calif., on Aug. 31-Sept.
2. LIU entertained the Anteaters last season at the LIU Soccer
Classic and fell, 4-0. The team remains out west for a match
against Division II power Cal-State Bakersfield on Thursday,
Sept. 6 at 7:00 p.m.
The season’s first home contest will be
a battle of New York City schools as Manhattan comes to Brooklyn
on Sept. 11
for a 4:00 p.m. start. Long Island will host the University of
San Diego in another non-conference home game on Sept. 16. The
Toreros finished last year 10-8-1 and took eventual NCAA tournament
quarterfinalist Santa Clara to overtime before falling, 2-1.

reigning NEC champion
Monmouth will take place a week later in West Long Branch, N.J.
A road trip to Connecticut concludes conference play as LIU will
face Central Connecticut State and Quinnipiac in consecutive
matches on Nov. 2 and 4, respectively. The regular season finale
will also be the season’s final home game against Philadelphia
University on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 1:00 p.m.
The NEC Tournament will be hosted by the regular season champion,
with the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 16, and the championship
on Sunday, Nov. 18.
