10/19/04 -- Long Island scored three goals in the first 4:40 and held off New Jersey Institute of Technology to get a 3-2 win in Newark, N.J. on Tuesday.

Sophomore Omer Rozen (Hashofet, Israel) dished to Mustapha Ayoub (Toronto, Ontario), who headed in a low shot 59 seconds into the contest. Forward Ricardo Ordain (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored his second goal of the season on a pentitley kick in the fourth minute to give the Blackbirds a 2-0 advantage.

LIU grabbed a 3-0 lead just over a minute later. Rozen fed Ordain, who sent a touch pass to Ayoub and buried his team-leading fourth goal of the season into the lower left corner past goalkeeper Collin Cunning.

NJIT answered in the 14th minute when Sean Pyne scored his first goal of the season from the right wing. The Highlanders kept the pressure on in the second half and were rewarded in the 56th minute, when Mario Douglas tallied his third of the season on a deflection of a free kick.

The Blackbirds dominated in shots, holding a 14-3 edge at the half and 32-5 in the game. LIU forced Cunning to make nine saves and held a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Freshman goalkeeper Alex Fatovic (Falls Church, Va.), making his first career start as senior Ryszard Gorski (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) sat out with a red card, notched his first collegiate victory.

The Blackbirds return to LIU Field on Friday for a Northeast Conference battle against Central Connecticut State at 3:30 pm. It is a rematch of last season's NEC semifinals in which the Blue Devils won on pentitley kicks.
