-- Former Long Island University men's soccer standout
Ricardo Ordain (Brooklyn, N.Y.), now excelling for the Charlotte
Eagles in the United Soccer League, was named BigAppleSoccer.com
Player of the Week.
Ordain scored twice
Saturday in the Eagles' 3-0 victory over the Long Island Rough
Riders, giving him three goals
in his last two outings. The contest took place in Uniondale,
N.Y., a short drive from the Brooklyn campus which several of
his supporters made.
In his first start
of the season after coming off the bench his nine previous
outings, Ordain tallied in the 53rd
and 67th minutes. He has four goals this season for Charlotte
(12-4-2), which sits first in the USL Second
Division.
Ordain places himself
in prestigious company with this award, which already
has been presented to seven Major League
Soccer players this year.
Ordain last season
was named first team All-Northeast
Conference and All-New York Region. He was second for LIU
with four goals, four assists and 12 points in his only season
on
the squad and his assists were seventh in the league.
Possessing great speed and field awareness, Ordain helped LIU
(9-7-4, 6-2-1 NEC) claim its first conference title since 1997
and its first NCAA berth since 1986. The Blackbirds defeated
St. Francis (PA) on pentitley kicks in the semifinals before upending
top-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson, 1-0, in the final.
