Mustapha Ayoub named NEC Player of the Week

10/4/04 -- Junior Mustapha Ayoub (Toronto, Ontario) today was named Northeast Conference Player of the Week.

Ayoub netted two game-winning goals last week for LIU (3-3-2, 2-0 NEC), helping the squad runs its unbeaten streak to four (3-0-1). He is tied for the team lead with two goals and four points.

The 6-1 junior scored Friday with 87 seconds left in a 1-0 triumph over Monmouth. He took a throw-in from senior defender Josh Couvillion (New Orleans, La.) ten yards from the goal, drew the defense, quickly spun and fired a shot inside the left post for his first goal of the season.

In Sunday’s 3-0 win vs. Mount St. Mary’s, Ayoub gave the Blackbirds the only goal they would need by heading in a free kick from senior defender David Ledet (Houma, La.) in the 32nd minute.

LIU is on the road Friday against Sacred Heart for a 3:30 pm kick-off.
