10/24/04 -- Senior Norman LeVesque (Yucaipa, Calif.) scored his second goal of the season with 44 seconds remaining in the first overtime, giving Long Island a 1-0 victory over Quinnipiac on Sunday at LIU Field.

The game appeared to be heading into a second overtime when the Blackbirds had a throw in. Senior David Ledet (Houma, La.) sent the ball into the box, where Levesque took a touch pass from Ricardo Ordain (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and booted it in from five yards to give LIU its third straight victory.

The Blackbirds (6-4-3, 4-1-1 NEC) put the pressure on early in the contest, taking four shots and earning five corners over the first 11 minutes. From there, the pace slowed as the teams battled to a scoreless half.

The second half was an evenly matched battle with both teams attempting seven shots. Quinnipiac goalkeeper Kenneth Lewis registered seven saves and senior Ryszard Gorski (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) made five for the Blackbirds.

The last five times these teams have met, the game has gone into overtime with the Blackbirds winning three straight.

Dominic Popolizio led the Bobcats with four shots and sophomore Omer Rozen (Hashofet, Israel) paced LIU with five. The Blackbirds held a 12-1 advantage in corner kicks including an 8-1 edge at half.

Long Island will travel to St. Francis (PA) on Friday for a crucial NEC match. Game time is set for 2:30 pm.
