Ordain Earns First Team All-Region Honors; Gorski and Stigh Named to Third Team

12/9/04 -- Three Long Island University men's soccer players were named to the NSCAA New York Region All-America Team on Tuesday. Graduate student Ricardo Ordain (Brooklyn, N.Y.) received first team honors. Seniors Ryszard Gorski (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) and Jonas Stigh (Trollhattan, Sweden) were named to the third team.

Ordain was a first team All-Northeast Conference selection in the midfield this past fall. In his first and only season with the Blackbirds, Ordain was second on the team in points (12), goals (4) and assists (4). His four assists were seventh in the NEC.

Gorski has been a foundation in goal the last three seasons. The first team All-NEC honoree was first in the league with seven shutouts and third with a 0.94 goals-against average. Gorski notched 21 shutouts over his illustrious career.

Stigh, a three-year starter, anchored one of the region’s most tenacious defenses. The 6-3 defender was a first team All-NEC selection and the NEC Tournament’s most valuable player. He aided in the Blackbirds’ 16 shutouts the past two seasons. In early November, Stigh was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) academic all-district I second team. He carries a 3.9 grade-point average in Journalism.

The Blackbirds (9-7-4) earned their first NCAA College Cup trip since 1986 with a 1-0 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson in the NEC Tournament final. They fell in the first round of the NCAA’s to host American University, 3-0.
