6/4/07 -- Long Island first baseman Randi Gillespie (San Jose, Calif.) became the second player in school history to be named an All-American as she was named to the Easton All-American Second Team by Easton Sports on Monday.

The senior earned All-America honors following a season which saw her set LIU single-season records in batting average (.443), hits (81) and doubles (16), and also break career marks in hits (195), home runs (28), total bases (314) slugging percentage (.626) and on-base percentage (.463).

The two-time Northeast Conference Player of the Year is the first player since Rosette Rough in 2003 to earn All-America status and the first to earn second-team honors. Rough was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association/Louisville Slugger All-American Third Team.

Gillespie earns Easton All-American honors for the second time in her career, having been named a third team Junior College All-American in 2004. The Blackbirds finished their 2007 campaign with a 34-22 record, winning their sixth NEC Tournament title and advancing to their sixth NCAA Tournament. LIU won its first NCAA Tournament game since 2000 against Colgate, 5-1, in the Amherst, Mass., Regional and return 13 letterwinners for the 2008 season.
