-- Long Island University senior guard Amber Wirth
(Hastings, Minn.) was named to the All-Northeast Conference
second team in a vote conducted by league coaches and announced
today.
Wirth leads the NEC in 3-pointers, averaging 3.07 a contest
(83 total) and is the lone conference student athlete ranked
in the nation in treys, claiming sixth.
She boasts a .435 percentage
from long range and holds the eleventh spot in conference scoring
with 12.8 points an outing. Wirth is second in LIU history
in career triples with 284, just two shy of tying Kim Mac Millan.
She holds the
seventh place
on the Blackbirds’ all-time scoring list, collecting 1,258
points over her career.
The North Star State native was the 13th Blackbird to notch
1,000 career points, a feat she achieved at Quinnipiac on December
7, 2005. Wirth netted a season-high 23 points and established
a personal-best seven trifectas versus St. Francis (PA) on February
18.
Wirth is pursuing a degree in
Media Arts with a minor in Journalism. She was named to ESPN
The Magazine’s
District I Academic All-American second team this year. The
epitome of student-athlete,
she maintains a 3.79 cumulative grade point average.
During her freshman campaign, she was tabbed NEC Rookie of the
Week five times and named to the 2003 All-Rookie Team.
The Blackbirds are gearing up to take on Monmouth in the opening
round of NEC Tournament action on Saturday, March, 4. Tip-off
is at 7:00 pm.
