12/3/05 -- Long Island University fell at Boston University, 72-45, on Saturday afternoon in women's college basketball action. The Blackbirds dropped their fourth straight, moving to 1-5 on the season while the Terriers improved to 4-1.

LIU was paced by senior Amber Wirth and sophomore Mikaelar Whippy, who each registered 12 points. Wirth contributed a game-high seven rebounds.

The Blackbirds shot 28.6 percent for the game, going 10-of-40 in the second half (25 percent). BU shot a shade under 52 percent in the latter half en route to a 43.1-percent performance.

A sluggish start by BU in which it missed 10 of its first 13 shots, allowed LIU to take a five-point lead on two occasions in the early stages of the game. A steal and subsequent layup by Rachel Vaderwal pushed the Terriers ahead at the 11:30 mark, 15-14. They would never trail again running out a 21-7 spurt to take a 36-21 lead at the break.

The Terriers quickly built their lead to 20 in the first four minutes of the second half, but Long Island crept back to within 14 after 3-pointers on consecutive possesions from Brittani Kozik and Wirth. A quick BU 8-0 run would quash any LIU rally.

The Blackbirds open up Northeast Conference play on Tuesday, traveling to Quinnipiac.
