Women's Basketball, Volleyball Team Up To Help Community Children

9/15/06 -- Members of the Long Island University women’s basketball and volleyball teams recently lent a helping hand to the local community, assisting the Brooklyn Hospital Center with its Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Fall Festival.

The Blackbirds aided carnival-goers in making necklaces, lanyards and sand art, while other players manned the cotton candy, popcorn and face-painting stands. The teams also helped out by arriving early to set up the carnival and staying late to break it down.

The volleyball team is currently 6-4, and will take part in the Hilton Garden Inn Greenbelt Invitational, beginning with a matchup with host Maryland on Friday, Sept. 15 at 7:00 p.m.

The women’s basketball team finished 14-15 last season, and will open the 2006-07 schedule on Nov. 10, hosting Saint Peter’s.
